The Red Church is the Republic's most feared cult of assassins. Though declared a heresy, the organization has struck something of an accord with various authorities across The Republic of Itreya. It is commonly known among patrons - those who employ the assassins of the Red Church - that the assassins operate under a code of conduct known as the Red Promise.
History[]
After the death of Anais, the fall of Yiisir, and the rise of Itreya, worship of Niah was outlawed. Eventually, she visited the dreams of Aelius, the son of her first chosen and told him to spread worship of her. Despite being a goddess, Niah was only as powerful as humans would allow her. He traveled the world gathering her true believers until there was enough of them to build a temple dedicated to her. The temple was built on the northern shores of Yiisir, built entirely of red brick, hence the name Red Church, and had a mural that depicted the story of the death of Anais and Niah's banishment, along with the location to the Crown of the Moon. When she had enough worshippers, she guided them to the Quiet Mountain, where the barriers between the mortal world and the Abyss were weakest, allowing her greater influence. There were those who worshiped her as The Lady of Blessed Murder, employing their skills as killers to fund the church. Over time, the Red Church came to be a cult of assassins that only knew her as a goddess of slaughter. This led to them to stop worshipping her entirely in favor of money brought through the Red Promise.
